What Matter Matters?

Recently I have been #coaching some senior #leaders and the concern was that we are too busy to take out time to spend with the team on an informal level.

Busy ensuring the customers are attended to, tasks and projects completed on time.

I wouldn't say it is not important to keep an eye on your goal. But if we let us stop and think what makes your goals happen?

Its the people in your team, right?

And when you go out with them or spend time on an informal basis, don't you get to learn more about them and them about you, which can help perform better as a #team and develop your relationship with them at a deeper level as a leader?

Now, it is not that you don't know this. But the question is - How often do you consciously plan these #meetups? And are they only linked to when you achieve a goal or is it a part of your routine plan? Even if you are doing this currently, think and tell me what kind of discussions do you have during these sessions?

What needs to happen is that during these outings, stop discussing work, and start to understand the person behind the name you know. Do you know anything about their family, where their spouse works, children study, their dreams, passions, hobbies, and most of all how is their current job inspiring them on a day to day basis to achieve their bigger goal of life?

It goes without saying that if your teams are working remote or hybrid this is even more crucial.

Unless you have an eyeball to eyeball and a belly button to a belly button interaction with your teams, they cannot be your true partners in achieving your inspirational vision. Period.

If the hearts are connected, the results are just a by-product.
