What material pump should be used to transfer sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid?

1. Selection of centrifugal pump material for sulfuric acid medium

As one of the highly corrosive media, sulfuric acid is a very common basic industrial raw material. Different concentration and temperature of sulfuric acid has large different corrosion on the material, for the concentration of above 80%, temperature below 80℃ concentrated sulfuric acid, carbon steel and cast iron centrifugal pump has good corrosion resistance, but it is not suitable for fast flow of sulfuric acid, and it's not suitable to be the material of pump valve; Ordinary stainless steel such as 304 (0Cr18Ni9), 316 (0Cr18Ni12Mo2Ti) for sulfuric acid medium is also applicable to the limited scope. Therefore, the centrifugal pump valve for transporting sulfuric acid is generally made of high silicon cast iron and high alloy stainless steel. Fluorine plastic has good performance of sulfuric acid resistance, the choice of fluorine lined pump is a more economic choice.

2. The selection of centrifugal pump material for hydrochloric acid medium

Most metal materials are not resistant to hydrochloric acid corrosion (including all kinds of stainless steel materials), high ferrosilicon containing molybdenum can only be applied to hydrochloric acid under 50℃, 30%. In contrast to metal materials, most non-metallic materials have good corrosion resistance to hydrochloric acid, so rubber lined centrifugal pumps or plastic centrifugal pumps (such as polypropylene, fluoroplastics, etc.) is the basic choice for conveying hydrochloric acid.

3. Selection of centrifugal pump material for nitric acid medium

Most ordinary metals are damaged by rapid corrosion in nitric acid. Stainless steel is a common use material for nitric acid resistant. It has good corrosion resistance to all concentrations of nitric acid at normal temperature. Therefore, when the medium is nitric acid, stainless steel should be selected as the material of the centrifugal pump. It is worth mentioning that the corrosion resistance of stainless steel containing molybdenum (such as 316, 316L) to nitric acid is not only not stronger than that of ordinary stainless steel (such as 304, 321), sometimes even far worse. For high temperature nitric acid, the titanium and titanium alloy are generally chose as the material of centrifugal pump.
