What is Match Day Anyway?

If you have lived in the Rochester area for any amount of time, you are most likely familiar with the term “Match Day” in the medical community; but do you really know what it means? I have to admit, I’ve had a few friends go through the process over the past few years, so I understood the process a little, but I had no idea about the ceremonies and celebrations and protocol for the opening of envelopes surrounding Match Day. It’s really quite fascinating! There are simultaneous ceremonies all around the country and at this magical moment, (which happens to be 1 pm ET on March 17, 2017 this year) all the residents open their envelopes and find their residency MATCH! The next stop on their journey to becoming the fully trained and vetted doctor they want to be.
