What is Marburg Virus and Should we be Concerned?

Marburg virus is a highly virulent virus that is classified as a member of the Filoviridae family, which includes other well-known viruses such as Ebola virus. Marburg virus causes a severe and often fatal illness called Marburg haemorrhagic fever, which is like Ebola haemorrhagic fever.

Marburg haemorrhagic fever is a rare but deadly disease that is caused by the Marburg virus. It is characterised by high fever, headache, muscle aches, vomiting, diarrhea, and bleeding, both internally and externally. The virus spreads from human-to-human through direct contact with blood, secretions, organs, or other bodily fluids of infected individuals.
