What makes you great?

What makes you great?

I’m phenomenal at big picture thinking.??

I’m telling you this for two reasons:?

  1. So that you’ll reply to this email with a nice message like, “OMG Chris it’s so true. You’re amazing at seeing the big picture.”?

  1. To invite you into a conversation about your own greatness.?

What is your greatness?

Do you even know?

Since society is obsessed with productivity, most people only think they’re great if/when they’ve done something that seems productive or that they’ve been rewarded / compensated for.?

This makes it hard to see and/or appreciate our own greatness at times.?

But this is totally flawed logic, for two reasons:?

  1. Compensation and recognition are arbitrary. They have nothing to do with your greatness or how much you’re contributing.?

Don’t believe me? Think of a stockbroker. They’re literally paid millions of dollars to gamble and speculate.

I’d argue they create very little material value in the world but somehow make tons of money and are respected as “smart businesspeople”?

  1. Special things have tremendous value whether or not the market says so.?

Think of any special thing (eating, sleeping, feeling loved, being kind to a stranger, a ladybug, etc.).?

These special things have value, and the market’s opinion of them is irrelevant.?

Just like the market’s opinion of you is irrelevant.?

Don’t get me wrong, my whole purpose in life is to help people make money from their greatness. That’s why I’m a coach.?

But in order to do so, you usually have to decouple your greatness from money/compensation.

Said another way, you have to internalize the fact that your value has nothing to do with your compensation or the recognition you have / haven’t received to date.?

Paradoxically, the more you realize this, the greater your chances are of making money from your greatness (assuming you’re living in a western democracy).?

Think of it like a math proof:?

  • If markets are man made (which they are)
  • And if you have inherent greatness that is valuable (which you do)?
  • Then we can find or create a market where your greatness can be monetized

In this paradigm, the value of your greatness is constant. It does not change.?

It’s only the market that we call into question. It must either be discovered or created.

If the market exists, we plug you in.?

If the market doesn’t exist, we create it.?

Money and recognition will follow.?

And here’s the most important point: even if you make ZERO money off of your greatness in this lifetime, it is still essential that you tap into it.?

Why??

  1. Because it feels good, and you deserve to feel good
  2. Because the future is uncertain, and we need you to bring your A-game.?

In terms of number 2, we will either destroy the Earth and go extinct, or humanity will continue to evolve and we'll happily exist on the planet for a long time.?

To do the latter, we’ll need EVERY PERSON connected to their greatness – to their highest self.?
