What Makes a Team Great? is a video by Simon Sinek, a leadership expert and author of the book Start With Why. In the video, Sinek discusses a concept he learned from visiting a United States Marine Corps training facility. At the facility, they have an exercise called the Leadership Reaction Course (LRC) which consists of 20 mini problem-solving challenges. Sinek observed that during the LRC, men tended to fail because they didn't spend enough time planning and communicating ideas before trying to solve the problems. They were so focused on winning that they rushed into solutions without a proper plan. On the other hand, women tended to spend more time planning and discussing ideas, but they often didn't leave enough time to execute their plans.
Sinek argues that this highlights the importance of blended teams. Teams that have a variety of perspectives and backgrounds are more creative and successful because they see problems from different angles. People from different backgrounds bring unique experiences and viewpoints to the table, which can lead to better solutions. Sinek concludes the video by saying that inclusion is about bringing together people from all walks of life to create a fantastic team.
