What makes a really good leader?
To a certain degree, we in the business community are somehow prompted to ask this question to ourselves in the light of poor leadership or people who are difficult to work with.
I asked myself this question since I was very young and interested in reading about leadership. I will share with you today certain conclusions about what I think makes an excellent leader in the world we live in (Anno 2022).
1.?He or she is an excellent listener: it is not only about good listening. It is about understanding what is in the mentality of that person you speak with. What is their background, history, what are they looking for, and even what is their current living situation? These are the real elements that shape people's answers, statements, and choices. Active listening involves also knowing what is behind what people say.
2.?They show empathy: This so “in” term and previously forgotten ability to empathize or be compassionate in an active way so that you listen, understand, and help others when they need you. This is also connected to my next point.
3.?They inspire: you might argue why I mention this here? How on earth do you become an inspiring teacher? You start being a good example of conduct and behavior; and by not letting yourself be taken by the negative example or behaviors of others. Doing what is “right” is a good way to motivate people to be better.
4.?They deliver on their promises: connected to point 3, it is not so much about big goals but about the commitment shown to follow up, persist, and go for a wonderful result.
5.?They are fair to everyone and promote inclusion: you can never be a good leader if you are not able to make everyone feel included and respected. I will add even help others feel safe. This is exactly how you make a company and teams excel by identifying people’s strengths and giving them the right place in the team to be themselves.
6.??They share and communicate their vision: without a common vision, it is difficult that the boat will navigate in the same direction, or at least it will lack efficiency. Therefore, openness and communication make employees trust the vision, be part of it, and gain trust in the leader.
7.??They spent time with their people: they are engaged and want to know what their colleagues and employees live and experience. They want to help them and provide any additional support they might need to make them “thrive”.

8.??They know when it is time to delegate: Even though it is excellent to get individual recognition, or feel strong for accomplishing big tasks, good leaders learn to delegate. You can never grow if you always keep doing the same thing and don’t teach or hire anybody else.
9. Is a forward-thinker: a general openness to changes, development, and advancement is a quality of an excellent leader because it will drive him or her to shape a better future for his organization, and this connects to point 6 of communicating their vision.
As you can read, good leadership is about being inclusive, having and communicating a vision, and empathizing with others. These suggestions are not only valid in the light of office situations and business, but in life, as we are exerting our ability to lead all the time!
