What Makes Our Fibres Different and Sustainable at Denim Privé?
At Denim Privé, our commitment to sustainability goes beyond just creating stylish and comfortable denim. We are dedicated to sourcing and utilising fibres that are not only high-quality but also environmentally responsible. Here's a closer look at the sustainable fibres we use and what makes them stand out.
Sustainable Cotton
We prioritise responsible cotton production by sourcing minimally impactful cotton. This involves respecting the farmer, the land, and the cotton itself. A significant portion, 86%, of our natural fibres come from Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) farmers, who adhere to sustainable farming practices. This approach ensures that our cotton is grown in a way that maintains soil health and reduces water and chemical usage.
Recycled Cotton
Recycled cotton is a cornerstone of our sustainability strategy. By reusing cotton, we reduce the demand for virgin cotton and minimise environmental impacts. Denim Privé used 329,955 metres of recycled cotton in denim production in 2023, this is a 48% increase compared to the 157,745 metres of recycled cotton used in 2022. This practice not only conserves resources but also reduces waste and lowers the carbon footprint associated with cotton production.
Recycled Polyester
Polyester is a common material in the fashion industry, but its production can be environmentally taxing. At Denim Privé, we incorporate recycled polyester to mitigate these impacts. In 2023, 32% of our polyester consisted of recycled polyester, which is an increase from previous years’ 6-8%, helping to keep existing materials in use and reduce dependence on new polyester production. This initiative helps us contribute to a more circular economy in fashion.
Hemp
Hemp is an excellent natural fibre alternative to cotton. It requires less water and fewer pesticides, making it a more sustainable choice. By integrating hemp into our products, we reduce our reliance on a single natural fibre and enhance our ability to produce eco-friendly denim without compromising on quality.
Tex2Tex by Earth Protex
Tex2Tex represents the future of textile recycling. This technology focuses on converting polyester textile waste into new fibres, moving beyond the conventional reliance on bottle-flake recycled polyester (RPET). By utilising textile waste, Earth Protex addresses one of the fashion industry's most underutilised waste streams, offering a sustainable alternative that helps reduce dependency on single-use plastics.

Matte Tencel by Lenzing
Matte Tencel combines the sustainable properties of Tencel with a matte finish, offering a stylish alternative to the often shiny look of indigo-dyed denim. Tencel is known for being durable, breathable, and biodegradable, sourced from sustainably managed forests. The matte variant maintains these benefits while providing a subtler aesthetic, making it perfect for versatile denim designs.
Circulose by Renewcell
Circulose is a game-changer in sustainable fashion. Made from 100% textile waste with high cellulose content, such as worn-out jeans and cotton scraps, Circulose offers a way to produce new fibres without using new cotton, oil, or wood. It’s used in making various regenerated fibres like viscose, lyocell, and modal, contributing to a closed-loop system that significantly reduces waste.
Other Regenerative Fibres
We also incorporate other regenerative and ecologically sustainable fibres such as Refibra, Modal, and ECOVERO. These fibres are produced by dissolving the cellulose of plant materials and regenerating them into new fibres using the viscose method. This process not only makes use of renewable resources but also ensures that the fibres are biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
