What Makes Me Happy
Change. Innovation. Seeing ideas take shape and form into tangible things.
That makes me happy.
I have only recently been fully immersed in the marketing world. I've had a vast array of job titles in my history of the automotive industry, but never did I perceive how immensely powerful change and innovation shape our world. I had the fortune of meeting a future version of myself during other ventures, starting in the automotive sales world. He and I loved the art of the sale but knew something was missing from the day-to-day bland feeling of a dealership. We both saw that although sales was the most amazing industry, there was something we could show the world that was slightly more valuable than a Hyundai or a Dodge.
Fast forward 3-ish years, 4 or 5 more job titles, a random Facebook message, and an impromptu live broadcast. My eyes are opened to seeing the beauty of the marketing world and even more so, to a pool of like-minded people who put their crazy ideas on paper and make their dreams happen. I've met people in tech, in fashion, in new industries people have socially engineered to create their own market, and they are all equally inspiring for a few basic reasons.
- Change
Many people are following the age-old tradition of spending too much time and losing the basic understanding that it doesn't really matter if you have the best product in a saturated industry. Think micro points with macro effect: Making the online ordering process to improve delivery times for your pizza joint, instead of finding prime retail locations. You'd be very surprised how big this can help long term and especially fiscally to further your runway and success as a new business or start up.
- Innovation
If you are fortunate to find a truly standalone message or product, or even a way to distribute something traditional to a whole new untouched market, you still face one roadblock. If you see this narrow gap, you need to target and market yourself in a very calculated manner. Avoiding this can jeopardize your element of surprise and very easily lose the huge advantage you had before. Sometimes (often times, really) speed beats quality.
- Seeing Ideas Take Shape
There's one thing that gets me out of bed in the morning, other than my daughter standing on my head at 6:30AM Sunday morning. I am forever going to romanticize how much it means to bring something you thought about back in 6th grade that is now paying you 3 times the salary from your last full-time job. Even if it's just working somewhere that you can go-to and leave happy, there's nothing more valuable than that. And when someone is able to action their ideas and recognize they don't matter if you don't do anything with them, now that is a wonderful thing.
