WHAT MAKES AN INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCE VALUABLE?

WHAT MAKES AN INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCE VALUABLE?

Let’s suppose that to interact is to act upon another thing. Then if that thing was to change as a result of me interacting with it and I was to respond to that change then we would be acting with each other. Both it and I would be in a kind of system wherein we would be influencing each other. By interacting we might be growing together and thereby the system would be open. Or we might choose to not grow. The only result of interacting would be that we both reinforce our initial position and then the system could be described as a closed system. It is functional in so far as it continues to move but it is closed in that none of the parts in the system are willing to adapt or grow.

In an affectors workshop we thrive on interacting with the participants. We grow and they grow as we consider each others’ perspectives and compare and contrast them with our own values, beliefs and current states of mind. In an ideal environment thoughts and feelings move freely around the room and by the end of the experience all individuals, including the facilitators, have transformed in some way; have undergone a metamorphosis and found a new way to relate to people. We let down our respective guards in order to experiment with new ways to open our hearts and minds so that we can access potential in ourselves that we were previously unaware of.

The outcome of affectors interacting in this way with others for 3 to 6 hours is that participants discover creative resources and communication skills in themselves. By the time the experience comes to a close they have not only learned that they possess them; they have practiced them. They have proved to themselves that they can do it because their inner critic wasn’t invited into the session. They are now free to practice them in their work and life with the confidence that they have already done it. The growth has begun and is free to continue for the rest of their life.
