What makes a good story?
You want to write a good story. You wish to tell a heart-moving story. Where do you look for? What should be included in the storytelling?
Here are some powerful ideas:
- Turn your MESS into a MESSAGE.
- Your TEST into a TESTIMONY.
- Your TRIAL into a TRIUMPH.
- VICTIM into VICTORY.
Imagine you were introduced by the MC. Your list of achievements acknowledged. Your awards recognized. Your trophies celebrated.
And now you stand on the podium. All lights in the hall dimmed. Only one spotlight shining. Your face is lighted up.
You opened your mouth. The audience can hear a pin drop. Because you started, not boasting, but telling the people it wasn't like this.
Your vulnerability. Your transparency. Your story of struggle and failure is what will resonate with the people. Even with the most accomplished achievers and powerful people.
Remember. People come to hear your story. They want to know your secrets of success and breakthrough - how did you make it in life.
As you moved on with your story, you don't stay in the place of despair and defeat for too long. Making people shed tears hearing your predicament isn't your goal to begin with. At this point, you are merely setting the stage.
You want to inspire hope. You want your audience to know there are people who want to help them get out of the mess. They need to know there are angels.
Like any good Hollywood movie, the hero in the story always gets a friend, a coach, a teacher - someone who turns up in their life and shows them the way to victory. Sometimes, this friend can be a total stranger. He or she shows up in a self-help book or in your YouTube.
That's what built the climax. And the rest is history.
When your audience walked out of the auditorium, they should feel empowered. The 'can-do' seed of greatness just got planted in their conscious mind. You were the seed-planter.
YOU. The seed-planter. That's the power of storytelling.

4 年Leroy Ng - Storyteller , indeed, many resonate with another human being like them rather than a superman. extraordinary is made up of extra and ordinary, simply means the ordinary doing extra than others. i remembered watching the HK movie, “still human”, a story told in its simple form yet it is a moving story as it depicted daily human struggles. cheers ???? i’m an #unlearningenthusiast
