What makes a good real estate broker?

Becoming a real estate broker in Dubai is a leap of faith. It isn’t a secret the real estate industry in the city is, by in large, a commission-only role. There isn’t the initial ‘safety net’ of a salary in place. It is therefore important to ensure you are active and doing all you can to generate contacts as efficiently as you can so you can start your real estate journey. The more connections you’ll make, the more business will come your way. To get business and connections, you need to be able to add something of value. You need to be helpful and supportive, and overall, someone people will want to use. There are several things you can name which make a real estate broker a standout performer. For us, however, there are three most important traits for long-term success as a real estate broker: honesty, trust and integrity.

Being honest, trustworthy and integrable in the real estate game is beyond important. When you’re a real estate broker, you are responsible for what could be the largest sale, or purchase that anyone will ever make. It is a home, where memories are made; an investment for someone using their life savings or so many other things to each person. It is vital that you are providing valid, and honest advice to people. Sometimes, even if it hinders you there and then in terms of a completed deal and commission, it is worth giving honest and valid advice.

Let’s dive into this. If you know it isn’t in a buyer’s best interest to buy in a certain area because they have told you xyz thing they’re looking for in a property, then you need to tell them this. If you know a sale at this time and point doesn’t help an owner, then you need to tell them. It’s all about listening and understanding. Even if it means you don’t get a ‘deal’ there and then, it is a great way to set yourself up for future business. People will respect this and people will come back to you more likely than not afterwards.

A trait of a ‘’bad broker’’ is advising people incorrectly to make a short-term financial gain. You can do this, but it doesn’t help you make good future connections or deals. You need to be a broker who genuinely cares about their client and ensures the best for them.

Furthermore, people need to be sure they are dealing with a professional. They have to trust you with a large amount of funds, with banks, with developers; with everyone and everything. When you’re in safe hands, a client will feel confident that you have their best interest at heart. By being trustworthy, you will get a good reputation and you will, more often than not, get a good name for yourself in your area. It is hard to find good and reliable people, near enough in any sector, so make sure as a broker you are being trustworthy and giving the best service/advice where you can.

Becoming a successful broker is tough in a competitive market. With a lot of brokers and companies offering similar property services, the key to standing out, overall, lies in delivering value to people. With buying, renting, or selling, offering something extra sets you apart. To stand out, a broker has to aim to be the ‘’go-to’’ broker known not just for making deals, but for providing authentic insights and expertise.
