What makes a good leader?

Tell us what makes a good leader!

The words of wisdom? The direction? The value?

“Walk the talk” that’s what we expect from a leader. No matter how strong their speech is, how strict the direction is and how good the value is, those things would only matter if we were led by example. Living a leader's values can teach us to have them embedded into our daily activities and behaviour.

East West Seed Indonesia (EWINDO) realizes that helping everyone to learn from a leader is a primary agenda. Therefore, we have Learning from the Expert (LFTE) since 2021. In LFTE, we give a stage to inspiring EWINDO leaders to share their experiences and value.

At the latest LFTE on 28 March 2022, we had our Seed Operation Director, Joko Sareh Utomo, as our ‘expert.’ He shared his motivating experience in living his life values and how he practices ‘engaging’, as one of the expected behaviours in EWINDO.

Ringkas, Rapi, Resik, Rawat, Rajin (5R) and Kaizen, are the top of mind when someone mentioned Pak Joko’s name. He came to EWINDO 18 years ago and brought 5R and Kaizen along with his working style. As the Plant Manager then, he committed to implying the two systems within his first six months and created significant changes for EWINDO’s factory. Everything was not only put in place effectively, but 5R and Kaizen also enabled EWINDO to save cost and prevent time loss due to revision or repetition.

He taught us that Kaizen is nutrition for a company. As time goes by, he has successfully made 5R and Kaizen become a ‘working culture’ in EWINDO. He made a long journey and effort to influence his team and EWINDO to be accustomed to 5R and Kaizen.

How did he do that?

A servant leader, the keyword he mentioned to describe how he could influence people in EWINDO about the two systems. He engages with his superiors, subordinates and peers with this value in mind, as he believes bonding works essentially for a professional relationship. ???????
