We've heard it all. GenAI is poised to revolutionize [insert name of industry here]. For insurance, for instance, the hot topics for GenAI in the areas of claims processing and operational efficiency. But what's the big deal about GenAI that make it transformative? What new capabilities does the technology offers that were previously unattainable? How exactly is it supposed to empower insurers to streamline their workflows, enhance customer experiences and drive significant cost savings?

I've been talking about it myself. One of the most impactful applications of GenAI in insurance is the automation of claims processing, from data capture to adjudication. Traditional claims handling has been a labor-intensive and time-consuming task, often requiring manual review of documentation and assessment of damages. GenAI, however, can dramatically accelerate this process through its advanced natural language processing and computer vision capabilities.

GenAI-powered systems can quickly analyze claim documentation, such as policy details, incident descriptions and supporting evidence, to extract the relevant information. What it does precisely better, that older technologies like OCR alone couldn't do, is that it reads and understands documents just like you and I would and hence it is capable of making sense of data that are not structured, inserted in a template or following an expected order.
