WHAT MAKES EEKI SUSTAINABLE?
Agriculture is one of the most important industries in the world. In India, it has a significant impact on our economic growth. Even though it is offering necessities like food and income, it is also endangering the quality of soil, air, & water and is eventually degrading the nutritional composition of fruits and vegetables.?
The United Nations has taken an initiative to end poverty and reduce inequalities while improving health, education, and economic growth. Simultaneously, it is also working on protecting our oceans and forests, which will ultimately help in slowing down the greenhouse effect.
At its heart are 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which require an urgent call for action that are associated with major global issues like hunger, water & sanitation, and climate change. The United Nations 2030 agenda for sustainable development has received worldwide support and organizations from all over the globe have been putting forward their contributions to achieve these SDGs.
8 Sustainable Practices of eeki -
1) Tackling Malnutrition—
By the end of 2030, the UN wants to end all forms of hunger, including malnutrition, achieve food security, and promote sustainable agriculture by implementing resilient farming practices.
When it comes to ending malnutrition, we have taken the plunge to grow and provide highly nutritious vegetables to the masses. This has become possible because of our brilliant research and development team that has developed crop-specific recipes of nutrition that are fed to the plants every day.?
As a result, our harvest is highly nutritious. And mass production and regular consumption of such vegetables can really help fight malnutrition at the ground level.
2) Pesticide-free Produce—
The UN aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for people of all ages. Their ultimate goal is to ensure a substantial reduction in the number of deaths and illnesses caused by hazardous chemicals and air, water, and soil contamination.
In 2021, approximately 60,000 metric tonnes of chemical pesticides were consumed in India. Excessive intake of such low-quality food creates several health problems like obesity and heart diseases while degrading the quality of life.?
At eeki, one of our major accomplishments is that we do not spray any harmful chemicals or pesticides on our crops. Consequently, our distribution team makes sure these vegetables reach every corner of the country, so as to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for people of all ages.
3) Sustainable Usage of Water—
The UN is actively working towards sustainable management of water. By 2030, they want proper management of water resources and the development of new technologies for recycling and reuse purposes.
India has access to only 4% of total freshwater in the world, of which 80% gets used in agricultural activities. But, a lot of water is getting wasted due to poor irrigation techniques.?
At eeki, we grow our crops in RO-purified water. During the process of irrigation, the water is continually circulated between tanks and growing chambers and never subjected to direct sunlight. As a result, the loss of water due to evaporation is completely avoided. This continuous ebb and flow helps in the recycling of water. In fact, we use only 20% of water compared to traditional farming.
4) Deploying Solar Energy—
The UN is keenly working on developing technologies that help in achieving the right energy efficiency policies and ultimately help in managing climate change. By 2030, they want to increase the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix.
At eeki, we believe that there is an urgent need to adapt to sustainable and renewable energy sources. So, we use solar energy in all our farms to fulfil our daily electricity needs. This has reduced our reliance on non-renewable resources such as coal and petroleum.

5) Employment Opportunities—
The UN is completely aware of the surge in the unemployment rate and that is why by 2030, they want to achieve full and productive employment and decent work conditions for all women and men, including youth and people with disabilities, and equal pay for work of equal value.
The farm labourers at eeki play a very crucial part in the overall farm operations. They are the ones who build our farms, take care of the crops, and maintain a hygienic environment .?
Keeping their relevance in mind, we plan to create thousands of jobs for such unskilled labour across the country. From skill training to better working conditions, we have formulated best-in-class policies for their personal as well as professional growth. We also give them higher wages and other financial benefits to make their lives better.
6) Climate-resilient Farming Tech—
The UN actively supports the research and development of groundbreaking technologies. By 2030, they aim to achieve reliable, sustainable, and resilient infrastructure that supports economic development, with a focus on affordable and equitable access for all.
In line with the UN’s goal of building resilient infrastructure, eeki is setting up thousands of acres of farms across the country. Eeki Farms can withstand extreme climatic conditions, like heavy rainfall in Mumbai and harsh heat in Rajasthan. And since our farms are climate-resilient, we are able to produce all types of vegetables throughout the year without any climatic interference.
Additionally, our innovative farming technology has been installed on all our farms. It consists of -?
a. Patented Growing Chambers
b. Patent-pending IoT Control Mechanism

7) Protecting the Climate—
As per the reports, there has been a rise in the global temperature by 1℃ due to global warming. The UN is actively addressing this issue and is aiming to integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies, and planning.?
Agriculture is one of the major sources of greenhouse gas emissions in India. The ploughing of the land and the breakdown of fertilisers in the soil release poisonous greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. All these actions cumulatively cause a lot of pollution and eventually raise the global temperature.
Without using any soil or coco-peat, we are able to cultivate crops in our innovative growing chambers. This way, we make sure that there are no greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere, thereby mitigating climate change.
8) Utilising Barren Land—
Did you know that 100 million hectares of forest land have been cleared in the past 2 decades? This has been done to create land for farming activities, which shall help to fulfil the needs of a growing population. And eventually, all this has led to land degradation and desertification.
By 2030, the UN wants to achieve a land-degradation-neutral world by combating desertification and restoring degraded land and soil.?
Eeki farms have an added benefit of being able to be constructed on otherwise unusable ground. This is feasible because we don't need any soil to cultivate our crops. Our patented growing chambers use nutrient-rich water for plant growth. That's why availability of fertile soil isn't an issue for us. As a result, the world's barren land can be put to productive use, helping to meet the growing population's demand for food in a sustainable manner.
Our natural resources are already on the verge of extinction. The future generations are going to face a serious shortage of fertile land, clean water, & pure air, which will result in serious complications like a lack of high-quality food, poor health conditions, as well as a loss of biodiversity.?
Even the UN is aggressively working towards sustainability. And with our sustainable farming initiatives, we are doing our part to achieve the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
