In a constantly changing world, where everyone's brain is as different as their fingerprints, where school and society does not teach this, how do we learn how we function and communicate? And how can we understand how others do, so that we can create the communication which works for them and makes projects successful?
There are 3 steps in making our communication and projects successful?
First step: Awareness
First, we need to be made aware of the many facets and differences between each individual, between a parent and his or her child, between 2 siblings, between 2 friends, between life partners, coworkers, and of course, managers and team members..
Second step: Self-awareness
Once we are simply reminded of this basic fact, and strongly made aware of what that means, it is time to work on how each one of us, with our specific codes, personalities, experiences, education, injunctions, abilities, limitations AND gifts receive, process and communicate information. Do you know if you are visual, auditive or kinesthetic? Right or left brain dominant? Detail oriented or big picture? Reflector or activist? (For more information on these elements, read Isla's article on the subject).
Third step: Creation of your own methodology
With these insights, you are now ready to discover, create and implement your own methodology for dealing with your tasks, problems and communication objectives. Once you have understood what methodology works for you and how to use it in your tasks, it is then time to use it to improve communication with others.
Of course, Rome wasn't built in a day and adapting one's communication to be heard and understood in all situations takes practice, but once it is mastered, personal and professional projects become easier, smoother, and more successful.
After you have read this, you are probably thinking: "Easier said than done! " We agree with you, that's why la SpeakingAcademy, is here! The big question is whether we value what we want to say enough to take the time to reflect on how our messages are being received by the other? In today's world of zoom, Covid 19, and massive uncertainty, the importance of our relationships can not be overstated. Good communication that sustains good personal and professional relationships is the key to our well-being.
