What is the Mainframe's Role in Hybrid Cloud?
Check out this post by Phil Weintraub to learn more about the Modern Mainframe’s role in today’s Hybrid Cloud environments. A few points from Phil's article to note include:
- Beware of the marketing hype. All workloads don’t need to and should not move to the cloud; especially when mainframe transactions are reasonably priced.
- The mainframe is not going away. It continues to evolve and it is open. I will add that mission critical workloads and transactions running on mainframes continues to grow; and the platform continues to have great scalability, reliability, resiliency and security characteristics.
- Develop a plan to integrate you mainframe assets into your hybrid cloud strategy. Phil advises enabling access to select mainframe assets to your cloud applications through the use of new microservices and secure APIs.
Building on Phil's second point we also see organizations that are successfully architecting the mainframe as part of their Hybrid Cloud environment are also modernizing how they manage and run this powerful, central transaction processing, data serving hub. Their modernization efforts include the use of tools that enable them to: incorporate the mainframe in their enterprise DevOps practices; use enterprise CyberSecurity best practices on the mainframe to better secure the platform; and to wrap intelligent automation around all of their management processes.

5 年Mainframe does indeed have a role in hybrid. Please ensure the mainframe is not in its own silo. APIs, containers, open source... all relevant on mainframe and WITH cloud.
