What if the magic wand exists?

In the current intellect powered economy the success of organization is directly proportional to the ability of its employees. The human resources functions keep looking for different ways to hire great talent and then retain the best of the talent.

In the quest of the identifying the best candidate organizations keep on looking for methods that would become its magic wand to find the best talent.

What does this magic wand looks like?

The magic wand would find a rockstar who would fit into the organizations culture and deliver amazing results.

And when there are no magic wands organizations turn to the personality assessments to find the rockstars. They look for people who have certain kind of personality or certain kind of traits. There are numerous model and assessment available which would help you find the candidate with the personality type you want to hire.

Does boxing people help?

I do not believe that grouping people based on personality is of much help. By grouping people and hiring based on certain traits only reduces the diversity of the people in a particular role.

Few people argue that personality makes a difference. I totally agree it does. But there is something more than personality that matters that is intent and skill.

A skillful person with right support and direction would be able to deliver much more than just a person with a certain personality trait.

Just think for a second about the classmates you had. Does their personalities that made them successful or their skills and abilities?

Or take your own example what you think better define you your ability or your personality?

I would argue that nothing begets success more than intent and ability. So, next time you are trying to find a rockstar look for ability and build a culture where people desire to be successful.

If you do, you have your own magic wand!
