Falling in love is a magical feeling; we don’t even realise and it happens…love has no boundaries, love has no rules…. it just happens….You can be in love with anything – a pet, a toy, your job, your college, your latest project, your friend..its a feeling that gives you a reason to live or it becomes your objective. For my speech I am going to focus on human relationships – According to Sternberg’s love theory, there are three components of love – intimacy, passion and Commitment.
The first component is Intimacy alone – it’s the feeling of liking someone, attachment or closeness to someone. Relationship between mother and baby, where both love each other unconditionally.
Passion alone, which is like infatuation for someone. This happens a lot in teenagers, they could be passionate about their peers or professors. Then comes
Romantic love (intimacy + passion) – it could happen between anyone, theres no particular age for falling in love! Then we need commitment to link the two – which could be short term or long term.
When its commitment alone, its like empty love – where two people are living together due to social or economic situations, an unhappy marriage is a good example.
When its passion and commitment – it is fatuous love – which can be described as a chemical reaction between two people..which is like a bubble, it develops and disappears very fast.
People could have Companionate love which is intimacy + commitment. This is like platonic friendship which could be between family members, brother-sister or close friends.
The last one is most ideal form – consummate love which is a mix of all three intimacy, passion and commitment. Sternberg believed this could be between couple who have been married for 15 years and are still crazy about each other, they still have strong desires and excitement in their relationship.
On that note I would like to conclude “without love there is no life; with love there is life. Love makes life better.”

5 年Let them judge you. Let them misunderstand you. Let them gossip about you. Let them speak about you . You are the best judged of your own personality and your smart? intellect .? Their opinions aren’t your problems. You stay kind, committed to love, and free in your authenticity... don’t you dare doubt your worth... Just keep shining like you do. Best Regards?

5 年This article (if I remain very lenient) reveals about your belief in love. I will read the theory in detail to grasp a clear picture as I feel the epistemology presented here is dubious. The 'being' ontology is rightly based as there is something which we call love, but while hate is considered a strong phenomenon than love, love needs to have stronger debate to overcome the negativity of hate. Anyhow, the world has seen destructions arising from both love and hate. Sometimes we promote hate to ensure that how much we care about someone whom we love. I like the clarity of your words. Keep up the good positive work.
