Today is a day of "Love".
But is it really?
We get caught up in the roses, the bears, and the chocolates. We make huge plans and dinners, give cards and make displays of our affection. Some of us will try to jump to the "Chill" part of "Netflix and Chill".
We talk about all these things as if they are about, "Love".
However, it is not true, or if it is then it's a VERY minuscule level of "Love".
What's Wrong With These Forms of "Love"?
Why are all of the displays of this holiday a bad form of "Love"?
Quite simply, they don't really show Love.
They are all nice, don't get me wrong. But in the long run, they sadly add up to little. One day to focus all of our "Love" into objects and tiny experiences - that's not really Love.
True Love cannot be shoved into a single day.
It cannot be shoved into a single experience.
The enjoyment of a dinner is forgotten after a week. The taste of chocolate is forgotten after an hour. Sometimes the enjoyment of sex doesn't even last 10 minutes after it is done if it's enjoyed in the moment at all.
In fact, according to statistics, 30-40% of sex has no appeal shortly after (if it did at all).
True Love is something that is lasting and has an impact months, years, and decades into the future.

What Love Lasts in Business and Life?
The type of love that REALLY lasts and is most important?
Self-Sacrificial Love.
Now, let me be CLEAR, Self-Sacrificial Love is NOT detrimental to yourself. If what you give to others is detrimental to yourself, that is not true love. That is just sacrifice.
When we have Self-Sacrificial Love, everyone benefits, including ourselves.
Science shows this - the one who gives this form of love actually benefits MORE physiologically than those who receive it.
In business, and in life, this is important. When we fight for and sacrifice to make the lives of those we impact better, everyone wants people in their lives like that. Leaders that do this not only benefit themselves and their teams, but their organizations flourish with this form of love, and typically their lives at home are dramatically better.
People you impact will fight for that kind of Leader.
This form of love also drives Group Flow, which becomes rocket fuel for organizations.
And those you call "Family", whether related by blood and marriage or not, will do anything for you.
Enjoy today, but strive for TRUE Love throughout the rest of your life.
