What Losing My Wisdom Taught Me

As I’ve stepped in 2017 hoping that this year as always is going to bring much more success, joy, peace and development across all aspects of life.
As I reverse back into the most significant moments in my mind 2016 will surely be associated as the year I lost my wisdom teeth (before a grammar nazi pounces yes for the record I lost two at the same go). I could never forget the excruciating painful experience I had to undergo for weeks. While in the process of rallying back it made me ponder if I am better off losing my wisdom after all having a Wisdom tooth meant that I was in an ‘age of wisdom’ , a late-bloomer in that regards as wiki states wisdoms usually erupt between the age of 17 – 25.
Nevertheless the wonderful age of smart predictive algorithms meant that based on my recent searches I was bombarded with medical journals about wisdom tooth and also profound quotes on wisdom .. Shifting through these I stumbled upon Tao Te Chings – ‘Knowing others is wisdom, knowing the Self is enlightenment’. Now I’m not the one to fall for these after all having lived in what’s supposed to be the most highly advanced ‘AGE OF WISDOM, INFORMATION AND INSIGHT’ I was a fan of Wisdom and yet here I was reeling helplessly with pain with all the wisdom, information and insight at a swipe on my screen.
We now live in a world where we are inundated with more information, on a daily basis, than we can possibly process. It is an over-communicated environment. The average person can now communicate faster, with more people—without thinking—than ever before.
Leaving all the wisdom of the world at bay I too finally surrender to this outcome of losing my two pre-loved molars.
Everything you undergo teaches you a life lesson, and the courage to discover the lessons with an impartial point of view has led me to believe
* Recovery Comes. Recovery comes in different forms but follows the same process. No wisdom can hinder the process and nature takes it course to heal as long as one has the willingness to overcome the situation. There is a survivor in each one of us but fighting back reality isn’t going to resolve anything soon. For when you stop thinking, obsessing, and yearning for the process of healing is when the process of healing actually starts.
* Afraid of the unknown. Events in life do not happen in a certain manner that we favour. Man has always felt insecure about something that he has been unaware of and doesn’t own. Change in lifestyle, phobias, societal conditions, economic recessions leads us to find scapegoats. We as children have always been instructed by parents and elders to resist and fight change and hence this has turned us fearful towards an unknown circumstance.
*It’s not your fault that bad things happen. We need to be kinder and gentler towards ourselves. If this is difficult, that’s where friends and family come in. This makes a world of difference. The quote from GoodWill Hunting perfectly fits the context here ‘You’ll have bad times, but it will always wake you up to the good stuff you weren’t paying attention to. All the likes, comments, shares and followers you have gained don’t mean a thing if you cannot fall back on these during tough times. Remember personal interactions have the power to create living wisdom for all of us to benefit from. Don’t take this for granted.
* Internal Conflict between what you want and what you have. As we begin embrace 2017 and possibly write new chapters of our life there is a question worth asking what we have to lose as we enter and explore new grounds. I am sure most of us already have our 2017 bucket list ready. But are we ready to face life and situations at face value. Do we have it in us to accept the process and still keep moving forward? This requires the ability to discern inner qualities. Something that’s not usually available in the social space but the space within.
* Road ahead is not a wealth of wisdom, but the power of impermanence. We have it all from Flying Machines to Bots, from algorithms to state-of-art sensors. All this so that we can have convenience, control, certainty and comfort a thing I learn in my new role but it’s something that all human beings crave for. But have these in the bargain created illusions to cope with the unknown of what’s coming next, we can’t predict the future let alone control and shape our fate. The only thing that we can be certain of though is our experience in this current moment. Technology shall fade, Assets depreciate, Relationships end and friendships fade, moments come and go. Nothing is guaranteed. So rather than seeking our next accomplishment through external wisdom to gain pleasures of mundane experiences for what ? What are we doing this this wisdom / information ? Are we living happier lives ? Are we truly any wiser ? We have surely learnt much.. But do we really know ? Or has our wisdom only be reduced to demographic, psycho-graphic and purchase intentions and frequency. Can we in 2017 view life without the filters that the outside world has to offer.
The book of Proverbs devoted to wisdom tells us that Wisdom is the principle thing. Though it cost us all that we have, to get wisdom
Disclaimer : This is thought off and written purely in state of trauma of having lost my wisdom teeth. Every word you have read has wasted another second of your life. Your not meant to read everything your suppose to read.
Here's wishing goodwill for all this coming year. May we Live With Understanding, To Live with Meaning
