What to Look for In Your Next Role
?Everyone wants a job that they truly love. So, when you are looking for a new opportunity, a lot of questions run through your head. Does the company care about its employees? What is office culture like? Although these are only the tip of the iceberg in what you consider for a new role, there are too many things to look for! I wanted to help you out by sharing what I look for in a role. My top 3 priorities are: being somewhere in which I believe; being with people and in a place where I feel valued; and being stretched and challenged.??
?
Being Somewhere That I Believe In –?
Over the last few years when I explored different job opportunities, the first thing I thought about was "does the company’s purpose align with my own values?". Working for an organization where I have 100% belief in its mission is a critical for me when looking at jobs. It's good practice to look up the company’s mission, vision, and core values because it allows you to learn about the company and be true to yourself. We all put in a huge amount of our time and effort into our work, so being able to have a job that makes a positive difference in the world is a privilege! I know that this is a luxury for many people but wouldn’t we all like to work somewhere like this?
Being with People and in a Place where I Feel Valued –?
The question “What is your culture like?” brings up many fascinating answers in interviews. Do you get a corporate response, or do you get a sense of real passion from people and for the working environment? For me, I want to be able to see a workplace that values openness and transparency. This kind of setting allows you to genuinely challenge those around you in a constructive manner, and allows you to feel heard. On top of that, an organization that encourages risk taking and open thoughts will help you to feel comfortable. We all want to be fulfilled and enabled to do our best work, so get curious and ask people who are currently working in the company you are interested in. The people and culture of an organization are central to unlocking what we want in a new role.?
Being Stretched and Challenged –?

To be honest, routines can get boring over time. I enjoy being pushed, stretched and being put in situations that might make me feel uncomfortable. From these kinds of moments, you can find yourself truly learning and growing in a role. This might be scary for a lot of us, and taking risks is no easy feat. A workplace that promotes a safe environment to take these leaps is the right place for you to grow! So, take a moment to find out if the company you are interested in supports and encourages their employees to be challenged.??

Visa’s Work Culture?
Now that I have shared what I would look for, I want to share my thoughts on my current role and how it fulfils the above priorities.??
I can say that it has been amazing working with a company that makes it easy and authentic to talk about their mission and purpose: To uplift everyone, everywhere. It feels great to work for such a trusted partner in commerce that focuses on making the world a better place. Visa has a lot of initiatives to bring access to formerly excluded communities and opportunities to help more people participate in today’s economy, whether individuals, or small businesses. Knowing that the work that each person does at Visa helps open the world is quite special.???
As a company, I have found that Visa is much more focused on what you achieve, rather than how many hours you spend at your computer. People here are motivated to work hard because they want to excel. At the same time, Visa allows you to be able to balance work and life. As a family that has moved around the world a lot, our life is centered around the four of us (and the three cats), as we have landed in new places. This company has given me the chance to focus on the important things like being able to spend time with my family as we have settled in a new country.?
I love what Visa is doing to be a change agent for the world. If you would like to learn more about Visa as a company, visit our website. Thanks for reading and I hope this helps you find a job that you love!?
