What is LinkedIn Live?

In early February, 2019 LinkedIn has debuted "LinkedIn Live", a new live video broadcast service
- LinkedIn with 600 million users globally says video is the fastest-growing format on its platform.
- The company is launching live video, giving people and organizations the ability to broadcast real-time video to select groups or to LinkedIn as a global platform.
- LinkedIn Live (as the product is called) will be invite-only and have a Beta stage, before it rolls out to the larger community.
Soon, LinkedIn will make it possible for everyone to create LinkedIn Live videos.
Got to love how LinkedIn demonstrates new channels to create professional and B2B value. LinkedIn Live is a program designed for small-business leaders and local professionals to share their insights on using LinkedIn to drive real business results.
- Imagine feeling like "you're there" at an interesting conference.
- Imagine thought leaders holding live "AMAs".
The possibilities here seem endless. From training workshops to creative brainstorm sessions with people working remotely to how meetings could integrate with Microsoft Teams, Skype or even Cortana.
I was waiting for LinkedIn to get into streaming, since maybe 2015.
Think about it though, as we head into an internet-of-things type workplace and smart home posts or traditional feeds are very outdated. LinkedIn hopes it can hustle and innovate:
- Cover conferences
- Product announcements
- Include vlogging natives as Influencers
- Q&As and other events led by influencers
- Educational mentorship opportunities
- Earnings calls, graduation and awards ceremonies
- Breaking News in niche domains and topics
Are you excited yet? Micro videos definately already make our feeds more interesting in 2019. Just think about what is possible in 2020.
Here LinkedIn might choose to work with several third-party developers of live broadcasting streaming services that creators will work with to create and post more polished live video on LinkedIn. This ain't not IGTV and YouTube at the mercy of user-generated-content I hope.
While Microsoft acquired LinkedIn in 2016, it needs to do a lot more to empower it's professional network that is scaling to become an educational network as well for professionals to up-skill and get acquainted with niche topics of their new jobs or new career paths.
‘Live’ video broadcasts for conference and announcements
LinkedIn Live would be a huge upgrade for its mobile experience and UX.
From how we share a good book to how we stream a conference, LinkedIn video needs to be tethered to real world events better and provide content that's more immersive.
If LinkedIn is all about uniting our professional experiences and leveraging our professional network, seamless video experiences are a new tool coming to an already impressive list of mobile app features.
