What Lincoln and LinkedIn Have in Common

While it’s hard to have people agree about anything in politics, most will say that Abraham Lincoln was an extraordinary human being. Hard to believe he was born 207 years ago today and his legacy is still present.
I’d love to watch him debate in today’s world and wonder what his Twitter feed
would say. As I researched this article I was surprised he died at the age of 56. His rugged, mature appearance made me think he was older.
And as the years pass, 56 doesn’t seem that old!
His honesty was legendary and lead him into the law practice even though he never formally graduated from law school.
I’ve often been struck how the words Lincoln and LinkedIn sound the same. What would his profile look like? What would he say about himself?
I encourage you to take a look at your LinkedIn profile this weekend. Does it talk to the reader or is it a “aren’t I great” page? Does it explain what you do for others? Would Lincoln give you a referral or recommendation? If you honestly want to help others, tell them what you do!
People want to hire you – make it easy by having a good LinkedIn profile. The fundamentals include:
- Professional photo – This means that if you’re not a veterinarian, don’t include your dog.
- Summary – Write it from the perspective of the reader. Consider bullets to make it easier to read.
- Professional experience from the past 10 years
- Volunteer work
- How to get in touch with you – include your email and/or mobile
FAKE PROFILES
Just like the many fake Lincolns you’ll see on TV, there are people with fake LinkedIn profiles. If you’re not sure, right-click on the photo and search Google for other images of that person.
When you find a fake profile, please report it to LinkedIn.
Sunday is Valentine’s Day … so from your favorite Darling, have a wonderful holiday.

You're right...these names do sound similar!:)
Good suggestions Diane Darling. The fake ID's is important. I've encountered that. Same for your tip on pictures. Okay, we know you play golf, but we can't see your face, etc. Abraham "LinkedIn?" Funny!! Happy Valentine's Day!:)
