What is it Like Working For a Startup?

In the last few years, there has always been something attractive about startups for professionals in the corporate world. Whether it's the work culture followed by the startups, the flexibility of work or creative opportunities available for individuals, startups have become the talk of the town lately. India has become a global hub for startups in the recent past, and startup culture has been widely accepted amongst young working professionals.?

With the introduction of the Startup India initiative, our country's growth in entrepreneurship grew by leaps and bounds. Many individuals who aspired to become entrepreneurs found this a great path and started their entrepreneurial journey. Since then, the startup ecosystem has been the sole driving force behind the growth of the economy. Startups have also led to increased employment opportunities and directed massive foreign investments to the country.?

But, what is it like working for a startup? Let's understand with an example! In simple words, working in a startup is like painting a canvas. You hold the freedom to paint a picture of your choice with your skillset. The colours you use on your canvas are just like the opportunities you have in a startup. You have a wide range of opportunities for growth in a startup, and you are automatically exposed to a large scale for personal learning and professional development.?

As you start to paint on your canvas, you have to think of the big picture, and this might even require you to make changes and rework them frequently. While you make mistakes, you will gain knowledge and implement them onto your canvas. Similarly, in a startup, you are given a chance to experience a hands-on learning situation. You have the freedom to implement and test your newly gained knowledge and gather results. This process of implementing and re-implementing is the tool for growth in a startup.?

We often do not find the space 'to learn' in established corporate organisations due to fixed rules and rigid processes they follow. However, in a startup, you can learn as an individual and team member as it gives space for long-term learning.?

Once you have a clear picture of the portrait, you want to paint it onto your canvas. You will now start to select your brushes, maybe thin or thick. All these brushes are of different sizes, and you need to choose the right one to make the correct stroke for your painting. Sometimes, you will find yourself using one or even two brushes simultaneously. Here, the brushes here depict the technologies used in a startup. You can try and test your hands on various distinctive technologies that help contribute toward the ideal growth of the startup. Hence, this is pretty much what working in a startup looks like.?

Additionally, working for a startup gives you the liberty to innovate new ideas and bring unique solutions to the table without going through the traditional hierarchical flow. It gives you space for innovation and creativity without any limitations.?

While working in a startup, you are automatically exposed to a broader environment without any defined structure, and if you are a person who doesn't like the framework of hierarchy, you will probably love working in a startup. Well, we don't mean that there is no fixed organisation flow; a process does exist, but the framework does not limit you.?

In addition to all of this, every startup has its foundations deep-rooted in the idea it began with. The idea is the key to the startup, and it is the one that feeds life into all the individuals working for the startup. The one thing that distinguishes a startup from another is not the funding or the employee size but rather the idea that differentiates them. This holds true for our organisation as well!?
