What is life really about?
Flying high and jumping for joy.

What is life really about?

One of the big questions that I ask people is:

What do you think life is really about?

Often people feel stumped to answer the question.

When they do not really think about it, I hear general things like:

  • Life is about being happy.
  • Life is about finding yourself.
  • Life is about surviving.
  • Life is about hope.

Whatever you think life is about, that is what your life will be about.

If you think life is about being kind to other people and giving back, that is what you will need to do to feel fulfilled and successful.

If you feel like life is about being happy and feeling joy, well, unless you are feeling happiness and joy, you are not living.

Life is a question and how we live it is our answer. - Gary Keller

If life is about finding yourself and you cannot find yourself, you will always be looking for this self because that is where your life is.

Human beings are machines. We are programmable - just like a computer has software, we have software. Our total life experience is totally based on the software that we filter the world through.

Our bodies are our hardware that can be optimized and our thoughts and feelings are the programming that either makes us take action and moves us forward or makes us wait and hope for the best.

Who programmed you to be who you are, do what you do and have the things that you have right now?

Was it your parents? Was it society? What it your experiences? Where did you get your software, and is it empowering you to live your best life?

It does not matter where the programming came from, what matters is what you are inspired to transform into.

If you knew you can transform your entire life in an INSTANT, would you do it?

You can change your entire life, you can go from having no home, no family, no money, no resources to having EVERYTHING. Even if you did not go to school, even if you do not have evidence that you can do it, even if everyone in your life tells you that it's impossible.

If you have the right mindset, you can achieve anything. If you have the right programming, you will take the right actions that will lead you to the right results.

Dare to dream to create something in your life that you never believed was possible.

Dare to dream to transform into someone who you do not recognize because of how much you grew.

Dare to dream to develop the skills, attitudes and beliefs that will not just impact you but will impact every person that you come in contact with and leave a legacy you are proud of.

I gave our Mojovation group an exercise to do called Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.

You look back at the past 5 years and you rate yourself in 10 areas of your life.

  • Physically
  • Mentally
  • Emotionally
  • Attractiveness
  • Relationships
  • Living Environment
  • Socially
  • Spiritually
  • Career
  • Financially

Give yourself a score of 1 - 10 for where you were 5 years ago, then ask yourself why you gave each score.

Do the same exercise for where you are today in contrast to where you were 5 years ago.

What did you notice? Are things better or worse in each area of your life?

If things are much better, CONGRATS! You are moving in the right direction. Keep it up.

If things are worse, you now can see where the work needs to be done to transform that area of your life over the next 5 years.

Now do the same exercise for where you want to be in all those 10 areas 5 years from now.

Most of my life is really unrecognizable from 5 years ago. I lost 95 pounds, I changed my whole mindset, improved my emotional state, changed how I look at my business, my spirituality. Everything has radically changed for the better. Parts of my life are still not where I want them to be and are in transition, but I am really excited about the opportunity that the next 5 years will bring and the impact I will be able to make because of the mental and emotional freedom I now possess.

If you asked me 5 years ago, Joe, What is life about? I would have answered, “Life is about making money and providing for my family.”

Today my answer is “Life is about being present, focused and full of love. Life is about living your values and showing up fully.”

Is making money still important. Absolutely. Am I still hustling and providing for my family?

A resounding yes.

But why I am doing it is very different today than it was 5 years ago.

I am on a mission to help 1000 hungry entrepreneurs go from Frustration to Mojovation.

That is why I jump out of bed with enthusiasm everyday. I am truly excited about the impact that I make on people's lives.

Because I have found the path to become complete with myself, to love myself and to realize my strength and inner power, I now have the capacity to support others with unconditional love.

I make 1000 introductions a year because I want to add massive value to my network. I give 50 talks per year about business, marketing, entrepreneurship and my health journey because I feel alive when I support other people in finding a better way.

Before you set your goals this year, ask yourself: What is life really about?

Spend a few hours thinking and writing your thoughts down and see if you can be specific and keep it short. See how it feels when you read your statement.

Do you feel calm, do you feel at peace with the REASON that you are alive? Are you confused and totally lost? Are you full of doubt and frustrated?

Once you connect with a higher purpose, you are unstoppable.

I would love to hear from you. Tell me what your thoughts are. Tell me what your goals are. Tell me what you plan on doing this year, to make 2019 the best year ever!

Please leave a comment and do not be a lurker today :) - Also feel free to share this if it resonated with you on any level.

PS: Most people do not set goals and the few people who set goals, never end up following through. Why? I have the answer. I will be discussing it on Jan 1 at 1pm EST. Please join me for a live interactive Goal Setting Webinar. It's going to be a blast.

Joe Apfelbaum BOOM! Just found this great article you wrote 6 years ago. What would you say if you did this exercise today? My favorite part is what you write about being present.
