What is Life Insurance?

What is Life Insurance? Do you have Life Insurance? Some people say, "I'm too young for Life Insurance" or "I'm healthy". Some may say "My job provides life insurance". Have you looked at that policy? Maybe you should ask for a copy of it and see what it really provides. If that's all you have at the moment it would be wise.

According to an article in USA Today from January of this year:

• 52% of Americans have a life insurance policy.
• 30% of Americans say they need life insurance but don’t have it yet.
• More than 100 million Americans are uninsured or underinsured when it comes to life insurance.
• More than half (55%) of those surveyed overestimated the cost of a $250,000 term life policy by $300. This is important because across gender, race and ethnicity, cost is a leading barrier to buying life insurance.

We sometimes ignore the fact that things happen to young and healthy people too. This morning in fact, over 200,000 people didn't wake up and that happens every day all across the world. Were those families protected from this disaster? Most were not. We buy auto insurance and home insurance but for the most part we don't use it. There is no guarantee something will happen. Not to get morbid or sell from fear tactics but the reality is, there is a guarantee that we will all die some day.
