What lessons do kids going to Montessori preschools miss vs kids going to progressive preschools?
In a Montessori preschool, the child is given importance with their incomparable style of education. In Montessori preschools, they use a syllabus that teaches kids to select what they want to learn with the help of teachers. Their academic program is designed with research that allows and encourages kids to learn.
Here in Montessori kids were taught by the teacher's command. Children are compelled to sit and listen to the teacher and memorize most of the content in the book. Progressive preschools adopt methods that emphasize experience and are far away from what traditional education is.
This is based on experiential learning which develops a kid’s natural ability. In progressive preschool children are taught to become social, to play music, and conceptualize various arts by giving more importance to their playtime and here they also understand the meaning of social skills and learn to work out difficulties.
So in the comparative study, Montessori lacks various aspects like they focus on traditional curriculum and teaching same old-fashioned academics. In progressive preschool, the contemporary education system is being implemented to play, explore and discover themselves in a free environment. So kids going to Montessori will miss “learning by doing”. Whereas in progressive preschools, their curriculum is developed by focusing on children's enthusiasm and curiosity to learn something new every day.
