There are four purposes of improvement: Easier, Better, Faster & Cheaper. These four goals appear in the order of priority - Shigeo Shingo.
Shigeo Shingo has appropriately summarised the lean and kaizen journey in the above quote. There are 4 elements in the quote. The first element is ‘easier’. If the workplace improvements are not ‘reducing efforts’ in operations, the workforce will not accept the changes. The second element is ‘better’. The customers must get the ‘quality’ products in full quantities. The third element is ‘faster’. The customer must get their products or services within the ‘agreed time’. The fourth element is ‘cheaper’. The company must achieve the first three elements and then, to achieve more profits, it should continuously ‘reduce cost of production’ by implementing lean and kaizen.
This will be the ‘Win-Win’ situation for all stakeholders involved. And this is the purpose of the lean and kaizen journey for a company.
