Some great leadership insight

Today I was facilitating a leadership workshop at a Japanese client. The participants asked a senior manager what he did to effect such a dramatic transformation at one of the company’s factories in Asia. His response:

When I first started as the plant manager my attitude was: “I’m the big boss, you have to listen to me.” But after a while I realized I was wrong. My attitude changed to: “I’m the senior leader, I have to listen to you.”

I thought that was a great insight to the role of the leader, and is something all of us could strive to do better.
