Malaysians always assume they have good command in the English Language. Resumes always have high point for spoken and written English. But talk to them; you will find that it is atrocious in most whom have given them high marks.
What's in a language... well this morning I had a candidate whom called for a position that requires good spoken English.
He is a lecturer, whom spoke with "lah" at every end of his sentence. When I asked how is it he spoke such being an English lecturer, he said oh! that is how Malaysian English is spoken, and he only uses professional English when teaching. When I corrected him saying that is wrong, he got angry saying I should not teach him.
Well here is the point, as a recruiter if you call us for a job understand that it is the first point of interview. Don't call us and speak in your mother tongue or "Manglish" it is not going to help you. Malaysian's should keep the 'lah' in our national language where it beautifully belongs. Everyone wants to learn a language... well why don't we start with English Language!!
