What to Know About this Petition on Paper Bag Importers
On Tuesday May 30th, 2023, an AD/CVD petition was filed on Paper Shopping Bags from China, Vietnam, India, Cambodia, Colombia, Malaysia, Portugal, Taiwan, and Turkey.?This petition was brought forth by two of the largest Paper Bag Manufacturers here in the United States.
One of the main petitioners is Novolex Holdings LLC (FKA Duro Bags) - now a Private Equity entity that was bought recently by an American hedge fund company.?

And just one of the false claims made from them in this petition reads….?
“For several years, domestic producers of paper shopping bags have faced unfair pricing competition from subject imports. These imports have made it impossible for domestic producers to obtain a healthy, market-based rate of return. As a result of these developments, future of the domestic industry is in peril. If trade relief is not granted soon, the United States may lose a substantial percentage?of its ability to make paper shopping bags.”

So now, here are the FACTS. Their claims that the Importers are causing loss of jobs and effecting the US economy are just misinformation.??
Who pays the price while these domestic manufacturers keep buying things up and monopolizing the market? Our customers do. That's who.
The truth is for years these manufacturers have continued to buy up all the smaller manufacturers to make it impossible for small and middle-sized businesses to buy from them by raising minimums and costs. This forced all customers to come to us, and importers like us, to get their packaging overseas. Now that we are all helping to create a packaging supply chain and have a healthy competitive market, now these two manufacturers want to hit customers again with these duties. Why? For their pockets.

Who will be affected? YOU, the American consumer, and dozens of small businesses with less than 30 employees who depend on their employers for their pay checks and healthcare. That’s who will foot this bill.

They will use our own laws to decrease competition, thereby increasing their profits. This will help fill their pockets with your money.
Why should everyone be concerned? Because it is impossible for any single company to supply such a basic commodity to the entire US market. Therefore, the retailers will still be forced to buy imported, as well as domestic products, but at a higher price. And once again it will be the American consumers who must bear the cost!
