What To Know About Omicron Sub-variants BA.4 & BA.5 and How to Stay Safe

As your trusted testing partner for COVID-19, we know it can be stressful to understand the ever-evolving waves of variants. We’re here to help. The following post details what symptoms BA.4 and BA.5 may cause, how Sameday Health can help protect you and your loved ones and provides some fantastic articles that dive deeper into this new phase of the pandemic.

More than 50% of new cases in the US are attributed to the rapidly spreading Omicron sub-variants BA.4 and BA.5. Whether you’re vaccinated, boosted, have been recently infected, or all of the above, these dominant sub-variants are the most capable versions of the virus to date at evading immunity.* While BA.4 & BA.5 infections share some symptoms with previous variants and sub-variants, they differ in that those infected are less likely to experience shortness of breath and loss of taste or smell. According to the C.D.C., there is no evidence thus far that BA.4 or BA.5 are inherently more severe than previous Omicron sub-variants. However, painful sinus infections and severe sore throats (often mistaken for strep throat) are commonly reported by those who have tested positive for Covid-19 during this current BA.4 and BA.5 surge.
