Picture this, it’s December 2018, you’re the Clemson football team and you just lost a college football playoff game the prevents you from achieving your ultimate goal of winning a national championship. What are you thinking? I missed the opportunity, life goes on OR next year I have to be a better teammate, a better listener, a more positive person, smart, more disciplined and harder worker to achieve the missing elements.
Well tonight watching the winner’s ceremony we know what Clemson’s mindset was from that disappointing moment in 2018…. Congrats Clemson, a perfect season!
It was inspiring to me to hear the post-game interviews, the coach and player after player being asked what the secret sauce was and response after response was the same.
1) Teamwork, heart, soul, belief in one another and God
2) Having a solid game plan and working the plan
3) Being a positive teammate and lifting each other up when times get tough
4) Learning from the past and each experience while working harder to close the gaps.
You might say yeah, but they already had a good team….. they did, but they also won the championship with a freshman quarterback albeit a talented one, but a win against the toughest competition out there was due to the comments each player expressed.
Success Breeds Success
As 2019 kicks off I think there’s a lot of inspiration that I take from watching this game and the result. As I develop my goals and write them down for the upcoming year I’m going to think about what kind of teammate I am, my mindset and what I need to do to achieve my goals so I can look back in January 2020 and know the things I did lead to success.
What about you? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
