“What kind of marketing exactly do you do?”

“What kind of marketing exactly do you do?”

People often ask me “What kind of marketing exactly do you do?”. It never came to me that it might not be clear, especially when I invested enough time to make a list of marketing and PR services and put it on my website. But it is considered rude and passive aggressive to ask people to read with understanding (or at all), so I decided to clear the air.

I hope to make it as short and clear as possible, so I’ll put it in bullet points:

  • I’m autistic which denies me the understanding of most of the social courtesies and reasons for not saying what you have in mind frankly. Instead I get to learn obscenely fast and understand things most can’t master from the first sight of brief examination. It also makes me see things differently, creating patterns, automatically analyzing things and finding immediate solutions.

  • Question: “What kind of marketing do you do?” is confusing for me for the reasons mentioned above. In my head it is obvious that, having vast knowledge and extremely versatile experience, I cannot neglect any part of the marketing and PR. On the contrary, what distinguishes me is that I first analyze my potential customer and based on the result I paint the wholesome picture. It includes all the best-suited ways to help this particular brand to grow. I feel highly uncomfortable when asked to ignore parts of marketing that don’t work or can be improved. It feels like taking medication for a cold while your leg is rotting from gangrena.?

  • It’s the same with all the designs and projects I ever created - I first see the final result in my mind and then I find the way to achieve it. This approach is well-known in engineering: Ask - Imagine - Plan - Create - Improve. I would be playing myself if I tried thinking otherwise, my brain simply works this way.

  • I am skilled in project management, team management, strategy, planning, etc as well as most hands-on parts of marketing and PR. I also know well which parts I should take up myself and which I should outsource to make it more time and cost-efficient. I enjoy helping my team to grow and develop their best skills. I thrive in a crisis. When most are already standing on a windowpane ready to jump, I’m having my best time solving the problem.

  • I love numbers and I easily read them and find the meaning. Since online marketing came in, being a professional in this area became much easier for my conscience. It was excruciating to make any prognosis based on the thin air and guesses. I’m not the person whom you can expect to pull the bunny out of her ass, I need empirical basis!

  • I don’t have ready-to-apply or all-in-1 solutions. Because they don’t exist. Each company's marketing strategy and choice of tools must be based on their current position on the market, influence of their competitors, point where they are in their development, financial state, short and long-term goals, etc. If you want to give your money to someone, who copy-pastes the same “best” marketing approach to everyone, be my guest, go flush your money down the toilet. Most people do it, why be different?

  • I call myself “marketing wizard” for the following reasons:

1. “Witch” would be more appropriate, but unfortunately, like many female-associated things it has a 100% negative connotation.

2. I worked with absolute shit many times and managed to make it work and bring surprisingly positive results. And, instead of wasting my time convincing people I am THAT GOOD, I simply call it “magic”.

3. No, I don’t pull rabbits out of my ass and I don’t make great results magically appear with ZERO budget and invalid team.

  • I’m a huge pain in the ass because:

1. I ask all the questions that may help your business grow and some of them may be inconvenient. But when you go to a doctor with the intention to get well, you need to be open. I'm not looking for one to blame, I'm simply highlighting problems to apply solutions.

2. I don’t take orders and don’t give blind consent. I take your words into consideration, analyze the situation and resources and respond with the optimal solution.

3. Because or thanks to my social awkwardness, I don’t lie and don’t tell you what you want to hear. Instead I bring refreshingly sane and straightforward opinions along with advice and ready-to-implement solutions.

4. If you’re looking to pay someone to flatter your ego, please don’t count on me. Lying and playing pretend makes me sick and being on the spectrum doesn’t allow me to hide it well.?

5. I highly respect knowledge and experience, I love to learn from others and admire innovative ideas and out-of-the-box thinking. It’d be a great bonus, if I could learn something from you as well.

6. If you decide to work with me, you get an expert and an equal partner. If you want to pay for flattery, obedience and a yes-saying marionette, I’m not your person. I highly respect your business and money you invest in marketing, and I expect you to do the same by valuation of my professional expertise. If you don’t value my expertise you don’t respect your investment. If it is so, you should take your money elsewhere.

To summon up the above, I do MARKETING and PR in all its spectrum. I do it individually and based on a firm analysis of your current situation and show you your potential. I surely am a piece of work, but I deliver very good results and brilliant ideas (I’m also very modest, as you can see).?

I am a woman, so if you’re a man (which is 98% true in the bike industry) and your manhood can’t take a female strong advice and opinion, you’ll hate my guts for sure, so let’s not spoil the air arguing. But if you’re looking for a partner to take the responsibility for your brand’s growth through marketing and PR, I’m the right woman for the job!

If only the rest of the industry was this open and frank. I much prefer having conversations where I don't have to decipher the bullshit and the wank. It tiring. Good on you for speaking your truth. Some won't like it. But that'll be their problem to deal with.
