What kind of health are you building?

There is something about taking raw materials like wood and metal to make something that is useful.

My father was a general contractor who had his own construction company.

In the hot, humid, mosquito-infested Florida summers I'd go to work with him.

The work consisted of sweeping, organizing, carrying cinder blocks, digging trenches, and anything else that needed to be done.

I did NOT like the work.

I am GRATEFUL for the work.

It taught me about being resilient.

It gave me new skills, made me stronger, and showed me some things I didn't want to do when I grew up.

I did enjoy spending time with my dad and the many memories we created.

I remember asking him why he liked construction because I didn't.

He said he felt accomplished seeing the house at the end and knowing there was nothing there before.

What kind of health are you building?

Just like my father, many of my clients comment on how much they love the feeling of watching their health transform.

Build A House, Build Your Health

Let's take building a house as a template for building your health.

Here are the 5 steps you must consider.

  1. Design: You must have a clear picture of what you want. Design how you'd like your health to look like. What would you like to be able to do? How would you like to feel? How would you like to look?
  2. Foundation: The foundation is what you are going to build everything on. It must be wide, deep, and level to build a solid structure. In health, your foundation starts with your breathing, your mobility, and your nutrition.
  3. Shell: The shell of the house is the exterior up to the roof before you hang the tiles or shingles. For health, it refers to basic strength movements and cardiovascular training.
  4. Finishing: The finishing of the house refers to all the inside and the final touches on the outside. Essentially the house is ready to move in without anything else to do. For health, we are tweaking for your ideal nutrition, water, and training program.
  5. Maintenance: As any homeowner knows now that you have a house you must maintain it. Keep things in working order and replace things that break down. For health, consistency, recovery, and progression are your best maintenance tools.
