What is a Kickass Career?

What is a Kickass Career?

Glad you asked!!!

And welcome to the first edition of Every Job Counts newsletter. Each week I will teach, enlighten and motivate you to discover your Kickass Career path and make the right career choices at the right time for you. This can mean staying right where you are, moving up, moving across, or moving out. Owning this concept versus being angry, resentful, giving up, or settling for less than you are worth is what developing a Kickass Career is all about. Comfortable is not a career plan, it's the polar opposite of a Kickass Career.

My commitment to you, is to help you not become one of the 63% of the workforce that is emotionally detached and dissatisfied with their current job, according to Gallup and Flair.hr. When more than half of the people you work with are unhappy it is difficult, if not impossible, to enjoy or excel in your personal world of work. When you are the one dissatisfied and unhappy, success becomes unachievable.

In the future, if you can look back at your career with pride and gratitude, you likely made valuable Kickass Career decisions, like knowing:

  • when to leave and when to stay
  • who you are and who you're not
  • what you know and what you don't, but should
  • when and who to go to for support
  • what gives you the most energy and what sucks it out of you
  • what work/life balance looks like
  • who you should know and who should know you

I could go on, but I think you get the point. Every job literally counts in building your career or your team. When I was a 16 year old babysitter I panicked and called the fire department for what turned out to be the reflection of my orange mini-skirt in the oven window. I saw flames that were not there. I still take a beat when a work situation starts to go sideways because I once had a job where I panicked. That job still counts because it taught me a valuable lesson about over-reacting. I also never wanted to be a babysitter, and if I hadn't realized I needed to move on, I would be the oldest living babysitter in Fullerton, CA.

And to help make my point, these two images pretty much sum up the difference of before and after implementing my Kickass Career tips
