It’s a question asked often: “If a keyless entry system functions seamlessly without a key, then what replaces the key in that equation?” The answer is complicated, but it begins with this: keyless door entry lock structures do not include what we would normally think of as a “key.” There is no piece of metal swinging from a keychain, and no keypad or fob for punching a button. Digital innovation has now fully replaced the archaic key + lock structure, enabling a brighter future and better security for your business and valuables. When discussing keyless entries and how they operate — your smartphone becomes the “key.” We’ll discuss this in more technical detail below.
KEYLESS DOOR ENTRIES = WHAT THEY ARE NOT
Ask someone what they know about keyless door entry systems, and they will probably point to their car. Newer models are now sold without traditional key-and-lock sets; instead, the buyer gets a fob powered by radio frequency IDentification (RFID) technology. The RFID-powered fob is still a “key” of sorts. A digital frequency is emitted to engage car-based systems. Most importantly, if the fob is lost, the car will not start. It is also a setup vulnerable to thieves.
KEYLESS LOCK ENTRIES AND THE BRAVE NEW DIGITAL WORLD
FLEXIPASS uses Bluetooth technology to create a mutually authenticated channel between any given mobile device, such as a smartphone, and the “smart” door lock. This connection is fully encrypted and secure. The world's leading door lock and access control providers as ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions, Dormakaba and SALTO integrated with FLEXIPASS. This ensures future upgradability also when it comes to security.
All of this means that there is no key required to utilize FLEXIPASS technology — all you need is your phone. The hotel owner, building supervisor, etc. manages and grants access through their proprietary system. These layers of security cannot be replicated with an aftermarket or keypad door keyless entry system. It is recommended that you work directly with the FLEXIPASS team to protect your investment and take full advantage of these groundbreaking capabilities.

NO KEY NEEDED FOR A KEYLESS DOOR ENTRY LOCK
In summary: keys are old news. Utilizing them within your company makes you vulnerable to unwanted access. With keyless front door entry admittance is only granted to pre-cleared, pre-vetted visitors. This access can be revoked or altered by the person in charge at any time, or controlled according to time of day and other important factors. Hotel guests can clear check-in and head to their rooms without loosing their key(card), keeping everyone safer also in the post-COVID era.
