What a journey! Reflecting on my 12-month placement at Nissan Motor Corporation (NTCE) with the Total Customer Satisfaction (TCS) department??

Final Year MEng Aerospace Engineering Student at The University of Sheffield
In August 2024, I wrapped up my placement at Nissan Motor Corporation in Cranfield, Milton Keynes—a truly bittersweet moment! Over the past year, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to work as a Cross Car Line Engineer in the Field Quality Investigation (FQI) team where I reviewed quality concerns across multiple vehicle models for harnesses, switches, and relays.
What did I achieve?
? Introduced 50+ countermeasures across various models, improving vehicle quality and solving a 2-year open quality concern!
? Gained deep insights into Nissan’s electrical systems.
? Volunteered on business trips to the Port of Tyne to tackle a battery issue. Gathering data from vehicles led to the root cause being found and a countermeasure to be developed. ?
? Supported the launch of the Qashqai minor change with quality checks.
? Visited dealerships to resolve quality concerns first-hand.
? Participated in a charity car wash, raising ï¿¡300 for Willen Hospice.
? Assisted with STEM days and mentored students interested in careers at Nissan.
? Supporting other departments with tasks outside of my responsibility to gain a deeper understanding. E.g. supporting with benchmark testing with R&D and conducting time trials
The year has been transformative, working alongside industry experts, building my skills in data analysis, problem-solving, and refining my engineering mindset.
A special thanks to the FQI team as well as the whole of TCS for creating such a supportive environment! I’m especially grateful to my manager, Steven Le Tocq, and my mentor, Jean Baptiste Monteil, for their unwavering guidance and for treating me like a valued team member. A huge thank you to Katharine Rymell and Fay Hassan for the opportunity, and to my fellow placement students for making this journey even more memorable!

To conclude, I believe this placement has made me a more well-rounded engineer and allowed me to develop my technical knowledge within the automotive industry as well as more transferable knowledge. I would highly recommend this placement to another student if given the opportunity. I can’t wait to bring the skills I’ve honed at Nissan into my future endeavours.
