What is a Jhumka, what are its types, and how to choose the perfect one for you?

The word Jhumka instantly evokes a picture of bell-shaped earrings that dance with every head turn. It was one of the most famous pieces of jewelry worn by women of the Mughal Empire. Though the era has changed, and the Mughals no longer rule us, they have not lost their glory and remain one of the most cherished and worn jewelry pieces by women in India and its neighboring countries.

These Jhumkas can be categorized as a lifesaver for women when they want to get dressed for a specific occasion but are confused as they want to wear something unique and stylish but at the same time don’t want to go overboard with it. This is where the?Golden earrings — Jhumka?comes to the rescue as they come in a variety of shapes like conical, circular even in the shape of a church bell ( popular amongst all), and goes well with every type of dress due to their versatility and gives us an extra Wooow! no matter where we go.

The main thing that has attracted women to this Jhumka is not its shape, though it plays an important role as it makes it unique and gives artists a new blank canvas to show their work, it was its weight. The royal families adopted this Jhumka because it was not as heavy as the other ornaments that they have to wear throughout the day. This was because of its hollow-shaped bell design and also the sound it makes which depends on the shape and weight of the bell. And the same reason applies to modern women, they also have to wear gold at parties which can be quite heavy but Jhumka is not as heavy as other gold ornaments and also goes well with every dress due to its versatility.

It all started in 300BC in the Cholla dynasty when it was found to be one of the many types of jewelry worn by statues of the temples which was taken as a reflection of their status. The Jhumkas that we know and love today was popularized by Bharatanatyam dancers. As we have already told in the opening paragraph, this jhumkas dance to every beat with the one wearing them which eternally adds elegance and allure to the people watching it. At that time they were only made from natural elements while incorporating floral and temple designs.
