What I've learnt from insurance brokers this month

Earlier this month I went to the WTW Networks Forum in Edinburgh, here are my top takeaways

This is the flagship event for the WTW Network and is very well attended by members having been postponed from June when rail strikes put the kibosh on proceedings.?

However, the rescheduled event went ahead, and here are my top takeaways:?

  1. Insurance is a people business and brokers were out in force alongside insurers and key partners to meet up, do deals, chew the fat, and put the world to rights. There was a really good atmosphere.
  2. Brokers are really good at getting business from referrals, with strong pipelines and relationships driving incoming leads.
  3. Brokers have strong client relationships and this is central to their success.
  4. Although the referrals are providing a healthy pipeline, brokers are aware that other sources of business need to be nurtured and they cannot ignore the changing demands and needs of clients who are looking for a broker with a good online presence and developing this is on their to-do list, with lots of discussions on updating websites with better content and copy that talks directly to their ideal clients.?
  5. Lots of independent brokers still have in-house claims teams, this is music to my ears having been closely involved in claims in a past life, but they're not telling people enough about this and how vital this support is to clients when they have a claim.?

Drive to get better and grow, not content to sit on their laurels but there is a desire to drive change and innovate, stay relevant and build a better reputation for insurance amongst the people they strive to serve.?

I feel informed and energised, with lots of ideas coming from the chats I had with brokers and providers.
