What I've learned in 10 years

What I've learned in 10 years

We’ve just celebrated our 10-year anniversary, and what a decade it has been. As well as rightfully recognising and acknowledging how far we have come in that time, it was also a time to reflect. ?????

?Your values should be created by those that will live them?

First up, you should know that it took us a few years to really be comfortable with?what our brand stood for. In the early days our values were created based on other people's expectations.?

There was a significant shift in how we behaved when the team developed the values themselves, these now embody everything that we do. Stop dictating to your team what their values should be and ask them.?

?

?So should your strategy?

Listen to your people, stop making decisions in the board room and make sure all of your team are part of the strategy and direction, and make them a part of it. ?

?

?Trust your intuition, always?

Trust your gut, people deserve a second chance but you can only do so much.?

?

?Get tough or die trying?

You have to master resilience. The past 10 years have been challenging, the next 10 years in the Food Industry will be even tougher.??

Continued challenges around talent shortages, general state of the economy, change in attitudes towards work are all creating a tough time ahead.?

?

?I’m worried about the art of communication?

As a business that pride themselves on building relationships and being human, we are in a world where people are becoming more and more comfortable wanting to email instead of picking up the phone or arranging a meeting.?

?

?The pandemic really altered the mindset of the workforce?

I’ve observed the post-pandemic workforce is wildly different.?I’ve seen entitlement levels go through the roof.?Many want and expect the reward without putting in the work.?

I believe that your 20’s are the time to learn your craft, this means learning from others around you, this could also be a time to build boundaries that protect your mental health, the two don’t have to work against each other. ?

Has hustle-culture had the opposite effect, and putting people off the idea of really grafting? Sometimes it can feel like the idea of hard work is taboo. ?

10 years later people have got lazier…Not all, but most.?

?

?Remote working isn’t right for everyone and every business?

I am all for the idea of flexible working, but not to the detriment of results.?In some job roles, there is no denying, output and results drop when people WFH.?

?

You know where we are if you need us.?
