It’s always rewarding to see people light up and lean in when they learn how they can support gender justice and feminist philanthropy through the Canadian Women’s Foundation. This was the spirit of the recent Guardian Women event , hosted by Guardian Partners Inc. and Guardian Capital Advisors LP and moderated by the Canadian Women’s Foundation Board Member, Kimberly Hu Amadori, CFA , Vice President, Investment Counsellor at Guardian Partners Inc.?

It was such a privilege to kick off this event by interviewing the Honorable Anita Indira Anand , President of the Treasury Board, about the future of Canada’s economic resilience and implications for advancing gender justice. It’s also exciting to see the business community starting to embrace more intersectional approaches to their work. This was a wonderful opportunity to participate in a International Economic Forum of the Americas panel discussion about putting intersectionality into practice at work.??
The Walrus Talks Gender-Based Violence coming up November 16th??

I couldn’t agree more. This is a tough topic. But we know that it also thrives in silence.??
During the event, six wonderful speakers and I will address urgent questions, including: How can we dispel the myths about who faces and perpetrates this violence and what stops it? What is the role and responsibilities of workplaces to help employees dealing with gender-based violence? With climate crisis and other shakeups leading to rising abuse here and around the world, how can we safeguard ourselves and each other????

What I’ve been listening to:??
I started my last newsletter with an article about online hate , and this topic is still very top of mind. I’ve been making my way through Alright, Now What’s Gendered Digital Hate, Harassment, and Violence podcast series . There are now 7 episodes live, with experts and influencers in the space sharing their thoughts and insights. Take a listen:??
I’m also in the midst of listening to Abraham Verghese’s acclaimed novel, The Covenant of Water. Much of the story focuses on a matriarchal character, Big Ammachi, as she navigates decades of challenge and change in Kerala, India. It’s an ambitious read (700+ pages!), but I’m looking forward to seeing it through.??
