What it's like to travel through Europe with an eHybrid | Drive Your Life | diconium

eMobility is the future, without a doubt. But to what extent is it the present? Our colleague Lisa and her sister Vicky are making the stress test: 8 weeks on the road through Eastern and Southern Europe in an eHybrid. Yes, the Drive-Your-Life tour is actually about working-from-anywhere. But there is also a lot to learn about European charging infrastructure. Spoiler: There were some little bumps, but so far, the sisters have reached every stop on their trip - and even fell a bit in love with their VW Multivan T7 ??

But why don't we just let Lisa speak? Here's a short excerpt from the Drive-Your-Life blog.

"As an absolute?#mobilityenthusiast?I have always had the ambition in testing and driving an alternative drive technology apart from conventional combustion engine. Actually, this was one more reason for me to apply for drive your life because I was eager to put two generally known concerns of e-vehicles into test: The EV charging infrastructure and the EV reach.

I haven't had any EV experience before, but as with all things: I have a very strong 'just do it' attitude which most of the times helps me to just not overthink things and additionally, I have great curiosity for things I haven't done or tried before.

Now being on the road with not a full EV but a hybrid vehicle gives me really the FULL flexibility because I have to admit, there were routes we did not always had the immediate option to charge the vehicle at an e-station, so I was glad we still had the option of gas fueling. Especially in Slovenia and Greece there was no real challenges we encountered - most parking spots and garages were equipped with charging stations and throughout the city a lot of options were available and listed on diverse apps. Moreover, almost every gas station offered both, fueling and charging. But in Romania and especially Bulgaria where we drove trough, things were tougher. Not with EV but even normal fueling stations had far distances one between another, which required good planning for upcoming stops.

Wrapping it up, I am loving the experience and especially the missing noise of the combustion engine whenever the 'Eco Mode' automatically switches to electric driving.?And finally the best thing:?EV parking slots are most of the times unoccupied and located very close to the venues or really right in the center. Might be an argument, right?"

#GoodToKnow and a call to action to everyone in the mobility business: Enhance the charging network! By the way: Why call for politicians, when there is money to be earned? #BEV adoption is growing fast, despite the supply chain issues.

Would be a little bit more exciting if it was a real EV ??? But props for committing to remote work!
