What is it like to be at a company for 15 years?

The average worker stays at their job for 4.6 years, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Well, I guess I’m not the average Joe after all because today marks my 15-year work anniversary at Lennox Industries! I remember how excited I was to receive my job offer and my first position as a territory manager in rural Florida. I knew Lennox was a good company and I never imagined I would be here this long. I certainly never dreamed of the things I would have been able to accomplish here.

When people are asked why they work where they work,?you almost certainly hear something along the lines of how great the people are. So I know it’s cliche, but yeah, the people at Lennox are great. Yet, the people are not the direct reason I’ve been here since 2008. People come into positions and people move out of positions. There’s something deeper at Lennox. It has to do with the culture. It’s like a magnet drawing in good people and giving them the encouragement and tools to become great people.

Lennox has a learning culture. Every company has core values, but Lennox has leadership workshops that go into depth defining each of our core values into guiding behaviors. And leadership always casts a shadow. At Lennox, it’s a shadow of Integrity,

Respect and Excellence. The learning culture only starts with leadership. It runs deep into every employee. Everything from our summer and fall field leadership meetings, annual Sales and Store Managers meeting, store manager boot camps, TM development, e-learning, local FTC training, and more. Lennox even provides world-class training to our customers. The Lennox LIVE event is one of the greatest conferences in the HVAC industry. And the Learning Solutions team is pretty fantastic if I do say so myself :)

So what is it like to be at a company for 15 years??I’m not sure what it’s like at the average company, but I can tell you what it’s like at an exceptional company. It’s like everyone you see knows you and you know them. Not just their title, but their journey and their goals. You know about their start. The projects they struggled with, their successes, and how they grew. You're sad when they leave, whether it’s a promotion to another department or an opportunity outside. You're excited when they return (and they often return) and when you get to see them again.

Over the years Lennox has provided me with the tools and resources to be a top-performing salesperson. Lennox invested in my development to take me from sales to leadership. Lennox encouraged and financially supported me in completing my degree. Lennox has given me an opportunity to express my ideas and work with incredible teams to create industry-leading tools, programs, and products.

The last 15 years have not always been great and we were not always winning. But they were mostly great, we were mostly winning, we were always learning and I was always growing. #WhyLennox
