What it's like becoming a parent whilst working at 11:FS
A few weeks ago we published a brilliant guest article from Julie VerHage-Greenberg on how important it is to have an employer that truly values pregnant employees.
The article really resonated with people who work in fintech as well as across all sorts of industries. One person who it resonated with is Global Strategy Director, Fintech Insider podcast host and mum of one Kate Moody , who felt compelled to share what it was like becoming a parent for the first time as an Eleven.
Over to you, Kate ??

From the moment I announced my impending small human, the whole company went out of their way to congratulate and support me. The People team worked with me to plan my leave, including letting me bundle up my unused leave to take some time off before my son arrived.

11:FS’ fantastic maternity leave allowance enabled me to take the time to really connect with my little boy. Six months of full pay gave me the headspace and the security to focus on parenting. Quite a big challenge it turns out! After 9 months away in total - a very long time in fintech! - I rejoined the team in the spring. The People team and my immediate colleagues really went out of their way to help me prepare for coming back, and to give me the time and support to readjust. It was really so much easier than I’d anticipated, and that’s almost entirely down to the support and patience of the team.
Becoming a parent has made me even more grateful for the flexibility that 11:FS offers. I’ve been able to work around key appointments for my son, knowing that the team trust me to get my work done. Being able to split my time between the office and home has also been a massive help. It feels pretty awesome to spend a day helping clients design the future of financial services and still be able to nab cuddles at bedtime. Sadly my son shows zero interest in listening to me on the podcast, but you can’t have everything.
