What are the items I need for a wardrobe that works for me?

?What are the basic items you need for a wardrobe that works for you?

In a simple sentence - the pieces you can wear on repeat, in several ways, that never look dated and MOST IMPORTANTLY, make you feel great.

Two women can have amazing style... and yet their style is completely different.

Iris Apfel for example, looks incredible and has a completely different dress sense to Carine Roitfield, who also has great style.

Both style icons, but what is it that makes them style icons?

It's a pattern I've noticed with all stylish women I know:

?? they don't chase trends

?? they know who they are

?? they don't care what anyone else says

?? they invest in quality pieces

These women could have been walking down the road 20 years ago, today, or in 20 years time... and look stylish no matter the date.

There's a *basic list* of items that create a well-worn wardrobe.

It includes:

  • A good pair of jeans
  • A blazer
  • A classic white T-shirt
  • An oversized shirt
  • A quality jumper
  • A desk-to-dinner dress

And if you're looking at that list thinking 'that's not enough stuff' TRUST ME, you can make dozens of outfits with this. I've done it for clients. I've walked into client's houses and they've said 'I've got hardly any clothes'... by the end of the day, they've got loads of new outfits and they haven't spent any money on new stuff.

'The items I need to have in my wardrobe' is a question I get asked all the time - but I want YOU to know that no list is exhaustive. Any time you Google it, or search on Insta, or read a magazine, you're taking on other people's perceptions about what you should wear.

I also want you to learn to trust IN YOURSELF.

The work I do with women means they stop asking people like me 'what should I wear?' and start answering that question for themselves.

Does that mean I'll ultimately work myself out of a job? Absolutely yes. Is that what I want? Absolutely yes.

Because ultimately I want you to have a wardrobe that saves you time and money makes you feel great and supports the big goals you have for your life.

It's depressed me this week that fast fashion retailer Shein has been valued as a £10bn company. The world doesn't need more tat that ends up in landfill. And on a micro-level, that is DEFINITELY not what your wardrobe needs, either.

If you keep thinking 'I have nothing to wear', then the answer isn't 'more clothes'.

And as the cost of living rises and we all start to think about where we can make changes to our lives, wouldn't it make much more sense to start creating a wardrobe that looks timeless for years, rather than bags and bags of tat that you never wear and doesn't fit properly.

I've worked this autumn and winter on building a capsule wardrobe and it's been both enjoyable AND valuable!
