What Is the IP Rating?

The IP (Internal Protection) rating is an international standard that indicates the ability of an electronic object to resist penetration by liquids and solids.

How to Read the IP Degree of Protection

You need to understand how to interpret the IP abbreviation so that you can make an informed choice about your next scale.

The IP abbreviation is always followed by two digits. The first from 0 to 6, refers to protection against the ingress of solids into the device, while the second from 0 to 9, refers to protection against liquids.

The higher the number, the greater the degree of protection.

Why Is it Important to Use an IP Rating?

We often hear the words “waterproof” and “water-resistant,” but these words do not have a precise meaning and can lead us toward the wrong use of products.

The IP rating, on the other hand, is more precise and accurate, with no possibility of confusion, making it easy to know the specific degree of protection or resistance of your equipment.

Understanding the various degrees of protection allows you to make the most appropriate choice for your next electronic device, whether it is a scale, load cell, or weight indicator.

DINI ARGEO Solutions for Critical Environments

Dini Argeo offers several solutions for humid, corrosive and hygienic environments where cleanliness is an important factor that must be strictly adhered to.

Precision Scales

Dini Argeo offers different types of precision scales designed for environments with high hygiene requirements and equipped with IP65 certification that guarantees protection against dust and low-pressure water jets. Examples include the GAM and TRD series which are ideal for laboratories and use in harsh industrial environments, and the high-precision GAEP-K series.

Weight Indicators

A wide variety of Dini Argeo weight indicators are designed to withstand harsh conditions in industrial environments, including the 3590EGTB8, 3590ET, and 3590ETD weight indicators with IP65 protection against dust, water jets and moisture.

The DFW multifunction weight indicator series consists of models suitable for critical environments, such as the DFWLI and DFWLID models with IP68 protection rating perfect for environments with high humidity and high-pressure water jets.

The DFWK HYGIENX and 3590EGT HYGIENX indicators are specially designed for environments with extreme hygiene standards. They are made of AISI 316 stainless steel with IP68 and IP69K degrees of protection, ensuring fast and thorough sanitization with high-temperature and high-pressure water jets to help prevent bacterial contamination.

Platform Scales

Regarding single-cell platform scales, options are diverse and varied. The T line in painted steel is distinguished by its robust construction materials and its use in mainly corrosive environments. The stainless steel TE series is ideal for environments with high humidity levels (IP67), ?and the TE69K model is made of AISI 304 stainless steel, with an IP69K rating that guarantees total protection from dust and water penetration, making it fully sanitizable.

Finally, the TE HYGIENX series, completely made of AISI 316 stainless steel, is the perfect choice for environments where high hygienic standards are required, such as the pharmaceutical or agri-food sectors. It is available in IP68/IP69K.

Pallet Truck Scales

Dini Argeo also has ad hoc solutions for mobile weighing. Such is the case with the TPWI-LK, a multifunctional model made of stainless steel that is robust and easy to use. The TPWI-PRO model, made of stainless steel, is ideal for use in moderately humid environments. Finally, the TPWI HYGIENX pallet truck scale is designed and manufactured for use in the food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. It is built according to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards and made of stainless steel with specific surface treatment and other construction features required in food, chemical and pharmaceutical environments.

It would also be valuable to understand the testing conditions used by a manufacturer to determine a specific IP rating. The standard outlines minimum requirements, such as a 3-minute test under water spray for the second digit of the IP65 rating. However, the actual test duration is likely longer, and this could be a key factor for the end user in choosing one piece of equipment over another.
