What Is Intuition—And How Can You Trust It?

Ever felt like you ‘just knew’ something but couldn’t explain how? Maybe you’ve had a sudden thought, a gut feeling, or a whisper in your mind that made no logical sense but turned out to be spot-on. That’s intuition—your inner GPS, always on, always guiding.

But here’s the catch: most of us are so tangled in the noise of daily life that we miss it. The endless swirl of emails, texts, and deadlines drowns out the subtle signals trying to come through.

If you’ve ever wondered what intuition is, how it works, or how to recognize it, this is for you.

The Universe Is Always Communicating—Are You Listening?

Intuition is like a quiet river running through the chaos of life. It’s the language of the Universe or Consciousness—whatever term resonates for you. But to tap into it, you need stillness.

When you make space for silence, intuition has room to speak. That’s when you can start to notice how it shows up in your life. And here’s the fascinating part: it doesn’t come through the same way for everyone.

Here are four key ways intuition speaks:

?? Visual Intuition:

?For some, intuition shows up like a movie in the mind’s eye. Maybe you’ve had vivid dreams or flashes of images that provide clarity. While this isn’t my dominant way, I’ve learned that visualizing—imagining outcomes or scenarios—can strengthen this connection over time.

?? Auditory Intuition:?

This one’s my sweet spot. Sometimes it’s a soft whisper: “Turn left here,” or “Call that person.” Other times, it’s a loud, unmistakable “announcement” that feels like it comes from somewhere beyond me.

?? Sentience:?

This is all about feeling. Have you ever walked into a room and felt the energy shift? Or had a gut instinct that told you to stay or go? For me, this often shows up in my heart—a literal tug or sensation that carries information without words.

?? Gnosis or Knowing:?

This is when knowledge drops in from nowhere, and you can’t explain how you know—it just is. This form of intuition often feels the hardest to trust because it bypasses logic entirely.

How Do You Know It’s Intuition and Not Imagination?

The question I get asked most often is, “How can I tell if it’s real intuition or just my mind making it up?”

Here’s what I’ve learned: Intuition is calm, clear, and aligned with love. It’s not frantic, obsessive, or fear-based. When intuition speaks, it feels like a deep truth, often accompanied by a sense of relief or clarity.

Rob Brezsny of freewillastrology.com says it best:

"Our true intuition emerges from the part of us that knows love is the ultimate law. It blooms in the spirit of affinity and intimacy. Like a slow motion fountain of lucid compassion, it reveals the objective truth about the riddles before us. It shows us the big picture."

By contrast, imagination fueled by fear or ego feels urgent, chaotic, or draining. It’s like static on the line, muddling the message.

Here’s a quick exercise:

? Close your eyes and focus on a decision or question you’ve been wrestling with.

? Notice where the answer feels like it’s coming from: your head or your heart?

?If it’s from your head, it’s likely ego or analysis. If it’s from your heart, it’s likely intuition.

How to Strengthen Your Intuition

You can build your relationship with intuition just like any other skill. Here are three practices to help you tune in:

1. Get Quiet Daily

?Even 5 minutes of stillness can make a difference. Turn off distractions, sit in silence, and focus on your breath. Ask your intuition a question and wait. You might be surprised by what comes through.?

2. Journal Your Intuitive Hits?

Write down those moments when you just knew something—and see how often they prove true. Over time, you’ll start to notice patterns that strengthen your trust in the process.?

3. Trust Your Body?

Your body is a powerful receiver of intuitive information. Pay attention to sensations—like a tightening in your chest or a warmth in your belly. These signals can often tell you what your mind can’t.?

Your Turn: What Does Intuition Mean to You?

I’m curious—how does intuition show up in your life? Have you ever ignored it and regretted it? Or leaned in and found something magical?

Drop your thoughts in the comments. Let’s explore this together—because your experiences and questions teach me as much as I hope I’m teaching you.
