What Is the Internet of Behaviors (IoB)

Apart from the fascinating facet of technology widely known as progress, the other aspect is acronyms which are equally fascinating. Ranging from the Internet of Things (IoT) to Brain-Computer Interface (BCI), year after year newer terminologies are coined and the list is purportedly endless.

2021 is a year that will forever be recognized as the year of the most recent inclusion to the technology acronym and that is the Internet of Behaviors ( IoB). IoB is a branch of IoT focusing on analyzing, processing, and capturing the digital dirt of day-to-day living.

IoB Defined

Though IoT essentially is the physical interconnection of objects in a network collating and swapping data through the internet, the IoB deciphers this information along with certain behaviors, that may range from purchasing trends to interests in demography.

Facial recognition, Big data Geolocation devices is a guide mapping customer behavioral trends. Uber’s IoT app, for example, monitors passengers and drivers alike. The moment the customer disembarks, a survey is conducted by Uber analyzing the trip, enabling monitoring the behavior of the driver and interpreting the experience of the passenger appropriately.

The World at Large & IoB

Within 2025, almost half the world population predictably will use at a minimum of a single IoB program; be it commercial or run by the government, and tracked digitally for influencing their behavioral trend. It is going to:

· Supersede several irrelevant customer feedbacks

· Obtain improved transparency on the customer location of shopping

· Provide notifications in real-time regarding discount outlets and announcements

· Analyze the effectiveness of a non-profit and commercial campaign

· Evaluate customer interaction with certain products, services, and devices

IoB could be a robust tool for leveraging marketing and sales for the creation of potent strategies that would create an impact on consumer offerings. Other niche industries as a result are benefiting as well.

IoB, for example, is of immense value to the medical profession; hospitals and nursing homes, in particular, can assess the condition of patients, respond to diagnosis and treatments, and any other relevant lifestyle data.

IoB Value Throughout Businesses

Consumer Behavior and Location Tracking

You may have received a request instantly to fill in a feedback form on Yelp or Google within seconds of you leaving a restaurant. This is a ploy of knowing your preferences. Uber applies the same rationale for finding out the experiences of their customers in developing enhanced strategies to provide quality service to them.

Services that are based on location use GPS or other alternatives, including Bluetooth and near-field communication or NFC for tracking the location of the user to transmit emails and notifications appropriately. This real-time data can be compiled instead of offline, helping organizations rapidly alter their offerings.

Physical Status and Facial Detection

In 2018, Barista began using IoB integrated facial recognition for ascertaining the mood, age, and gender of their consumers. Aided by the technology they can observe the outcomes and recommend a suitable drink for their customers. Retail stores can use that system for bespoke advertising which entails the brands offering services or products according to their gender or mood.

Amazon’s pioneering product suggestions, analyze the history of the buyer for recommending products. Through Facial recognition too the same thing can be done, but the consumer’s present status has to be reviewed.

Patient Recovery through Health Monitoring

These days IoB is being used in developing smartphone health applications for monitoring sleep patterns, heart rates, blood sugar, and diet. Moreover, patients can be alerted regarding their health status, recommend an easygoing lifestyle, and alter their meals and medicines accordingly. This data is a potential lifesaver helping in the diagnosis of illnesses and starting appropriate treatment nimbly.

Citizen Behavior Tracking and Social Credit Score System

You might recall China introducing its very own social credit score system monitoring the behavior of its citizens by assigning scores. Minus points for forgetting to make an electricity bill payment or for posting on social media against the government. A large-scale application of the Internet of Behavior technology has been planned, aiming at making it feasible to monitor the loyalty of their citizens to the present regime.

Therefore IoB is beneficial both for governments and businesses as well as for monitoring the citizens, keeping crime at bay, providing essential services, and adopting an increasingly organized and safer lifestyle.

Tracking of Chronic Disease

In the last two decades, there has been an unforeseen increase in non-communicable diseases or NCDs as well as chronic diseases. Year after year, millions die due to NCDs, which results in exorbitant healthcare costs.
